Data in the app
KnightSight stores your games, puzzle progress, settings and analysis locally. The app has no account system, advertising SDK, built-in analytics or cloud analysis service. The bundled Stockfish engine works without internet access. Its local web host serves engine files only within your device.
KnightSight does not automatically send your chess database to Coded by Jim. Device or operating-system backups may contain local app data, depending on the backup settings you choose. Uninstalling the app normally removes its local data; separate backups or exported files must be managed separately.
Sharing and support
When you use the operating system's share sheet, you choose the recipient or service. That recipient handles the shared file under its own policies. Emailing support gives us your email address, message and any attachments you send. We use them to answer your request and resolve issues, based on providing support and our legitimate interest in maintaining the app. Please avoid sending sensitive information that is unnecessary for support.
Apple TestFlight
For TestFlight builds, Apple automatically collects beta crash and usage information and shares it with the app provider. Feedback you submit is also shared. Tester identity visibility depends on the invitation method. We use this information to diagnose problems and improve KnightSight; it is not used for advertising or sold to third parties. Apple controls its platform's collection and retention. Read Apple's TestFlight privacy information.
This website
The site uses Microsoft Azure Static Web Apps. Delivering and securing it requires processing technical request information such as an IP address, requested URL, time and browser information. We do not add advertising, tracking cookies, analytics scripts, contact forms or remotely loaded fonts. Necessary hosting and security processing serves our legitimate interest in operating a reliable website. Microsoft may process service data internationally under its applicable safeguards; see Microsoft's privacy information.
Retention and recipients
Local chess data remains under your control. We keep support correspondence and any beta information we access only while needed to handle the request, diagnose the issue, or meet legal obligations. We do not maintain a separate marketing database or sell your information. Hosting, email and platform providers process the information required to provide their respective services; their platform-specific retention also applies.
Your rights
Where the GDPR applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact us using the email above. We cannot remotely access or delete a chess database that exists only on your device. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or your local supervisory authority. No automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects is performed.
Changes
The date above identifies this policy version. Material changes to app data processing will be reflected here and in the relevant app release information.
